Botanical Illustration – Spring Term

Dock LeavesTutor Debbie Devauden will guide you through the various techniques to achieve a detailed and accurate botanical painting. You’ll have the opportuntity to work in pen with a wash of colour or learn the methods to create a pure watercolour picture.

Debbie is an experienced tutor, with a Diploma in Botanical Illustration from The English Garden School at the Chelsea Physic Garden. Debbie has exhibited widely, including with the Society of Botanical Artists at their London exhibitions.

The workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some experience.

Life Drawing – Spring Term

lifedrawingsummerschoolA monthly class concerned with the importance of observation of the human figure. You will work directly from the life model with artist, Tony Tribe, on hand to provide individual guidance.

The course will equip you with the technical and perceptual skills to competently render the human figure. Each session will feature a long pose of two or three hours length, although shorter poses are always incorporated into the day. Students will be introduced to key areas of life drawing: measuring, proportion, anatomy, line, tone and mass.

Suitable for all abilities. Places fill up quickly, early booking is advised.

Please bring a packed lunch, materials and drawing board if you have one.

Basket Making – Spring Term

rsz_basket_making_5Artisan Basket Maker and Willow Craftswoman, Mary Zammit, will introduce you to the skills and techniques of this ancient craft. Using locally grown willow you’ll learn how to design and construct your own basket from scratch. The classes allow opportunity to work on your own personal project under the expert guidance of Mary. You’ll need a sharp pocket knife, secateurs and a medium flat-headed screw driver. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.

Pottery – Spring Term

rsz_potteryConcentrating on the making process this practical course introduces the fundamental techniques used in hand-built ceramics. Martin Craddock, our trained potter and tutor will guide you through coiling, slabbing and press-moulded dish making in our welcoming and relaxed studio. Throughout the course, there will also be opportunities to throw on the wheel.

Participants will be able to work on their own personal projects under the expert guidance of Martin making items for your home, garden etc.

Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.

Includes firing and access to specialist equipment.

Twilight training session for those working with young people in the outdoors.

A selection of artists/writers representing Arts Alive will be using a variety of different techniques to create art in an outdoor environment.

Workshops with: Emma Beynon, Morag Colquhoun, Richard Harris, Matt Caines and Blue MacAskill.

Event to be held at Mount Street Infants, Rhosferig Road, Brecon LD3 7NG

Weather permitting, we will be making use of the outdoor surroundings.
