Botanical Illustration – Spring Term

debbie devaudenTutor Debbie Devauden will guide you through the various techniques to achieve a detailed and accurate botanical painting. You’ll have the opportuntity to work in pen with a wash of colour or learn the methods to create a pure watercolour picture.

Debbie is an experienced tutor, with a Diploma in Botanical Illustration from The English Garden School at the Chelsea Physic Garden. Debbie has exhibited widely, including with the Society of Botanical Artists at their London exhibitions.

The workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some experience.

Drawing and Painting – Spring Term

Join artist Susan Milne for our Wednesday morning art classes.You’ll be introduced to a variety of art materials, practical techniques and processes alongside relevant art history examples. This course of four weeks will involve working in mixed media, collage, drawing and colour.

Different drawing methods and materials will be encouraged and individual attention given during the sessions. The course is suitable for beginners and the more experienced. Basic materials are provided, please bring a sketchbook with you.

Life Drawing – Spring Term

lifedrawingsummerschoolA monthly class concerned with the importance of observation of the human figure. You will work directly from the life model with artist, Tony Tribe, on hand to provide individual guidance.

The course will equip you with the technical and perceptual skills to competently render the human figure. Each session will feature a long pose of two or three hours length, although shorter poses are always incorporated into the day. Students will be introduced to key areas of life drawing: measuring, proportion, anatomy, line, tone and mass.

Suitable for all abilities. Places fill up quickly, early booking is advised.

Please bring a packed lunch, materials and drawing board if you have one.

Martin Craddock, our trained potter and tutor will guide you through coiling, slabbing and press-moulded dish making in our welcoming and relaxed studio. Throughout the course, there will also be opportunities to throw on the wheel.

Participants will be able to work on their own personal projects under the expert guidance of Martin making items for your home, garden etc.

Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.

Includes firing and access to specialist equipment.

This practical course introduces the fundamental techniques used in hand-built ceramics. Martin Craddock, our trained potter and tutor will guide you through coiling, slabbing and press-moulded dish making. There will also be plenty of opportunities to throw on the wheel. Participants will be able to work on their own personal projects under the guidance of Martin making smaller items for your home, garden etc.

Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.

Using locally grown willow you’ll learn how to design and construct your own basket from scratch. The classes allow opportunity to work on your own personal project under the expert guidance of Mary. You’ll need a sharp pocket knife, secateurs and a medium flat-headed screw driver. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.

Tribe – Spring Term

rsz_fullsizeoutput_514Tribe is a new monthly workshop for young artists and their families. These playful workshops will explore a wide range of art and craft including Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics and Textiles.

The afternoon sessions will provide a friendly, relaxed environment for children to create and learn. Parents and families of all kinds are encouraged to stay for tea/coffee and take part in activities.

A professional training day for artists, filmmakers and writers to develop scripts, storyboards, filming and editing techniques in relation to sky-orientated filmmaking.

James Hedley is an award winning VR film director. Having shot all over the world for clients such as BBC, Sky, United Nations and Google, he has a wealth of experience delivering documentary & drama projects of international scale. Frequently looking to give audiences new perspectives, James implements the use of drones in his work in order to offer viewer an out of body VR experience like no other.  http://surroundvision.co.uk/

Ben Huss-Smickler is a professional drone pilot with over four years flight experience. He flies globally for clients such as Honda, Gumball 3000, United Nations, and charities and premier league clubs. His company SkyEdge specialises in 3670 aerial footage and have pioneered bespoke solutions in immersive media (www.skyedge.co.uk)

Air Lab – creating new perspectives

Air Lab is a new digital project focused on the potential of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), exploring the terrain of the Black Mountains from the sky, through a programme of training events and workshops. Artists, creative technologists and environmental organisations will work together to increase skills and knowledge, experiment and network in a spirit of peer-to-peer learning and collaboration.

PRINTMAKING – saturday workshop

Printmaking with Hannah Firmin

In this Saturday workshop printmaker Hannah Firmin will guide you through the importance of drawing to develop a print design.

You’ll create a relief print from drawings made in the studio from observation or reference images and transform these into a design to produce an original relief print in either Lino, vinyl or wood. You don’t have to have experience of drawing for this workshop, the printmaking process reduces tones and simplifies lines to achieve striking results.

Hannah will show examples of her own work and demonstrate the process from initial ideas and drawings to finished artwork.

The workshop is ideal for complete beginners as well as those with some experience.

DRAWING & PAINTING – autumn term

Different drawing methods and materials will be encouraged and individual attention given during the sessions.  The focus of the first four sessions will be based on Drawing. After the break and four sessions drawing, the course will introduce painting with a variety of pastels and mixed media to explore gesture and form. The course is suitable for beginners and the more experienced. Please bring a sketchbook with you.

PRINTMAKING

SOLD OUT!

This Saturday workshop with printmaker Hannah Firmin is an opportunity to experiement with variety of relief printing techniques using Lino, wood and vinyl blocks. Working  from your own designs you’ll create a basic single colour print or apply several colours. Hannah will show examples of her own work and guide you through the design process, demonstrating how an idea for an image can be developed as a print for different uses, such as card design, illustration, repeat image for fabric printing and letter heading.

 

You don’t have to have experience of drawing for this workshop, the printmaking process reduces tones and simplifies lines to achieve striking results.

The workshop is ideal for complete beginners as well as those with some experience.
