WILLOW BASKET MAKING – autumn term

Basket Making with Mary Zammit Artisan Basket Maker and Willow Craftswoman, Mary Zammit, will introduce you to the skills and techniques of this ancient craft. Using locally grown willow you’ll learn how to design and construct your own basket from scratch. You’ll need a sharp pocket knife, secateurs and a medium flat-headed screw driver. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience. Please bring a packed lunch. MONDAYS, 10am – 2:30pm 3rd November – 1st December £150 for 5 week course. Includes basic materials. Botanical Illustration with Debbie Devauden During this enjoyable four week course you’ll be supported to produce beautiful botanical paintings from a range of natural specimens. Debbie Devauden’s expert tuition will guide you through each stage of the process, enabling you to develop patience and confidence, an eye for detail and the ability to draw a specimen accurately. In 2003, Debbie gained a Diploma in Botanical Illustration from the English Gardening School at the Chelsea Physic Garden and has exhibited at the Society of Botanical Artists, London. The School of Education and Lifelong Learning will be delivering outreach, undergraduate level one, Art and Design courses on Wednesdays at Arts Alive Wales, run by artist and tutor, Tessa Waite. These courses are held in the Arts Alive Wales building but bookings are managed by the University of Aberystwyrth. The following courses are on offer from October: Imaging the Landscape Code: CF106 (October/November 2014) A practical pastel course based on the local landscape. Workshops are supported by discussion on the meaning of 'romanticism and realism' in contemporary and historical Welsh landscape painting and in the work of artists who...

Pottery with Martin Craddock Concentrating on the making process this practical course introduces the fundamental techniques used in hand-built ceramics. Martin Craddock, our trained potter and tutor will guide you through coiling, slabbing and press-moulded dish making. Weekend Workshop Textiles with Chris Gray This weekend workshop will give you the opportunity to use crafting and stitching skills to create unique items that reflect and celebrate the ancient traditions of winter.
