Penny Turnbull taught part-time for several years at an Abergavenny primary school. Having finally decided to pursue her art career full-time in 2007 following a period of study at Hereford College of Arts, she now works full-time from her studio in Abergavenny. Penny exhibits her work locally and further afield, running workshops and participating in community art projects across all age ranges.

Drawing on her primary education experience she particularly enjoys encouraging creative activities with children. As a textile and print artist her primary interest is in collage, and the layering of texture and colour to create an image. Favourite themes are landscapes and seascapes, as well as a long held fascination with myths and legends. Penny creates textile jewellery, bags and sculptural pieces as well as pictures.

Her recent textile work involves the use of an embellisher which allows her to combine fabrics and colours in a painterly way giving more scope to mix and fragment colour and produce an interesting background to further develop with stitch.
